Modern science and technology and the challenges facing Third World countries

We live in a highly sophisticated world where everything is almost possible. Probably there would have been no change between today’s world and that of three centuries ago if necessity and chance discoveries had not prompted men to do great things. Science and technology have had enormously positive effects on all societies. Today’s world has gone digital, even human thinking. Our world has been reduced to a global village and it is better for it.

The benefits of science and technology far outweigh any perceived deficiencies. Some of the greatest effects of technology are in the area of communication, through the Internet and mobile phones. There is an advance in communications and expansions of economic trade. Today we hear about information and communication technologies (ICTs). Any institution worth its name must have it in place to be truly exceptional. Information technology has been driven in the current generation; from the field of communication, business, education, to the entertainment industry. Through information technology, job performance is increased with less effort and greater productivity thanks to the use of various operations. Without computers or the Internet, it will be difficult for people around the world to get answers to their questions. One can use the Internet to locate a large amount of information with which to answer an essay question that may have been assigned at school, communicate with people, conduct transactions, access news, buy, and advertise goods. The list is endless.

The advance of science and technology today allows mass communication, so we have not only television, radio and newspapers, but also mobile phones, which provide a multi-purpose service; from long-distance calls, listening to radio and music, playing games, taking pictures, recording voice and video, to surfing the Internet. The benefits we obtain as a result of ICT services have become widespread in our current generation. It improves the productive level of individuals and workers because the knowledge of people’s lives beyond the area in which they lived is now unlimited. This idea of mass communication also profoundly affects politics, as leaders have many ways of speaking directly to the people. Aside from going on the air to use radio or television, politicians turn to social media for some of their political commentary and campaigns. Information about protests and revolutions is being disseminated online, especially through the social media. This has caused political upheaval and has led to a change of government in most countries today.

In addition, today’s global problems are much more accessible to the public. Communication has also moved to the next level because new ways of communicating with loved ones can be found at home.

Science and technology expand the knowledge of society. Science helps human beings better understand how the world works, while technology helps scientists make these discoveries. Learning has been maximized by the different media that are being developed, all of which are interactive and take learning experiences to the next level. Companies have grown and expanded thanks to advances in advertising.

Modern technology has changed the way many companies produce their products and run their businesses. The idea and use of video conferencing and web conferencing, for example, has helped companies eliminate geographic barriers and given them the opportunity to reach employees and customers around the world. In today’s economy, it has helped companies reduce the costs and hassles of travel, allowing them to meet as often as they want without having to worry about finding the budget to solve it. Modern technology helps companies reduce their carbon footprint and become greener because almost anything can be done from a computer.

There have been advances in health care through the development of science and technology. Advances in medical technology have greatly contributed to prolonging people’s lives. People with disabilities or health problems are increasingly able to live closer to a normal life. This is because science contributes to the development of medicines to improve health, as well as technology such as mobile chairs and even electronic devices that monitor people’s health.
